How to digitize vinyl records

 How to rip vinyl

In order to transfer his music to mp3 format suitable for his mp3 player, my friend used a turntable connected to a computer through USB port.

This an easy way to connect. For older gramophone the connection could of course go to LINE IN port of his sound card.

Now to transfer music to digital format, the following software was used:
Once the equipment is connected, EZ Vinyl will send music to the computer while Audacity will record it, clean it and save it to mp3.

Before recording the connection had to be configured the following way:
This is done in Control panel settings under sound where USB Audio CODEC is set as default recording device.

Properties of this new device that acts as a microphone is recording level about 4 or 5. Since microphones are sensitive any higher level would cause sound distortion.

Next the signal that will come from the turntable into the computer is specified. It's a stereo signal.

Audacity is configured like shown which is to tell where the signal is coming from. The music is now heard and Audacity can start recording it.
